The Government is sending a delegation to Papua New Guinea to look into the disturbances on campuses which resulted in PNG Police firing on demonstrating students. While the issues involved relate to PNG politics, the Vanuatu education authorities are concerned about the safety of Vanuatu students there. The delegation leaves today for PNG, Radio Vanuatu reported this morning. A Vanuatu student at the University of Goroka in Eastern Highlands Province called on the Vanuatu Government to repatriate students in Daily Post yesterday. Classes at the University are suspended for 3 weeks, and students from other PNG provinces have already sent home on buses supplied by the University.

Lands Minister Ralph Regenvanu, Chairperson of the Taskforce on Political Reform, has told Daily Post that the ad hoc committee established yesterday in Parliament will soon begin consultations with the people over the amendments government sees as necessary for constitutional reform. It is hoped these might lead to an early referendum.

The Government has appointed Andrew Leong as Consul-General in Hong Kong. He is a member of the Cheung family which established the Au Bon Marché stores.

A group of Chinese and Vanuatu artists from the Red Wave and Nawita associations has earned Vt 1 million at an auction of their artworks to assist local NGOs supporting the underprivileged. The auction was attended by Government leaders and prominent Chinese investors.

Daily Post today reports eight Australian social media influencers are in Vanuatu to produce images and comment for the tourism promotion campaign. Vanuatu Tourism Office’s Linda Kalpoi is thrilled to be able to share what Vanuatu has to offer with them to further promote Vanuatu as a tourist destination.
