Last Monday, we posted a photo of of an unknown young ni-Vanuatu girl taken in 1983 while at a protest in Port Vila against France’s nuclear testing in the Pacific. NZ journalist and educator David Robie used her image on the cover of his latest book and was keen to identify her. Here’s the original image of her in 1983:

Our post receieved an enormous response, and many of Vanuatu Daily Digest readers contacted us to let us know who she is. We’re please to tell you that her name is June Keitadi, and she’s alive and well and living in Anelkauhat, Aneityum with her own family.

June is the daughter of Weitas and Jack Keitadi, then curator of the Vanuatu Kaljoral Senta with Kirk Huffman.
Her sister Shirley Loughman tells us that June is the assistant bursar at Teruja secondary school on Aneityum.

David Robie says he hopes to meet June on a  planned visit to Vanuatu later this: “I hope to one day meet her personally again and give her a copy of my book”, he says on his Café Pacific blog.
