Breaking news: election day sees evidence of dirty tricks, problems with electoral roll

Flyer accusing Graon mo Jastis Pati of satanism, allegedly distributed by candidate Wendy Himford

Some evidence of dirty tricks in today’s election — Graon mo Jastis Pati leader Ralph Regenvanu says “This flyer was distributed last night in various communities around Port Vila. At Tokyo Village (Buninga, opposite entrance to Le Lagon), the young boy distributing it was caught, and admitted that he was given it by the Wendy-Myriam Himford team to distribute. Police have taken his statement and we will follow up in the courts after the election”. This is a fairly serious breach of the law — and it doesn’t only defame GJP. Regenvanu posted on the popular Facebook group Vanuatu Spotlight.

Reports are also coming in from some Efate polling stations of registered voters names’ missing from electoral rolls. No further details as yet, but stay tuned, election wonks.

Both National Radio Vanuatu News and Daily Post today touched upon the impossibly large number of voters (192,632) on the electoral roll today. Radio Vanuatu News warned against people holding two cards voting twice. This has come about because certain dishonest politicians devised schemes which could enable their voters to vote more than once, sometimes in different constituencies. Efate Rural and Port Vila provide good examples. Hopefully particularly indelible ink has been obtained to mark voters’ fingers to prevent double voting. Radio Vanuatu News said the police would be diligent in catching offenders.

Daily Post mentions attendance figures for recent Port Vila elections. Just over 25,000 are on the rolls as eligible voters. There were 22,308 in 2008 but only 15,787 turned up. It would seem the attendance figure is likely to better indicate the  incidence of an out-of-date electoral roll than the eligible voter turnout — but only if the ink for marking fingers is difficult to remove.

Who is this stupid woman? I seem to remember some time ago she proclaimed herself to be ‘Jesus Christ’. She should be made aware that the Freemason’s Lodge is a world-wide charitable organisation that also does good work locally. The difference between the Lodge and other charitable organisations is that we do not advertise our good works. We are not a church, have no satanic links and could do without utterly ridiculous proclamations being made in the hope of scraping a few votes together at the expense of a reputable candidate..

    • Himford is a crank, with an inordinate interest in the occult and conspiracy theories, which she sees everywhere. Not worth expending even another syllable on.
Readers, if you wish to know more about Freemasonry, read the Wikipedia entry on Freemasonry for a balanced overview.

The procla………thing or whatever is a clear stupidity on the part of Ms. Himford. The real issue is that at no time until now, Ms. Himford would listen and appreciate anyone !!
